Hochhuth kimutatja hogy -XII. Pius tudott a tömeges zsidóirtásról -Reális lehetősége volt annak, hogy határozott fellépéssel gátat vessen az embertelenségnek -Ezt még akkor sem tette meg, amikor a háború kimenetele már nem volt kétséges s még sok áldozatot meg lehetett volna menteni a biztos pusztulástól.
A pápa tehát személy szerint felelős tízezrek meggyilkolásáért.
