Nem értik Alceste-et. „Mindenki azt kérdi: bohóc ez – vagy beteg?” Barátja, Philinte folytonos dührohamai miatt orvoshoz küldi.
Szerelme, Célimene szerint nem úgy szeret, ahogy szeretni kell. A szerelmes Éliante azt mondja róla:
„Igen különc és fura,
és mégis rendkívüli figura:
abban, ahogyan mindent kihegyez,
van valami nemes és hősies,
valami olyan ritka tisztaság,
amit már alig ismer a világ.”
Ki ez a mizantróp? Miért vívja elkeseredett szélmalomharcát a hazugság, képmutatás, korrupció ellen, ha ő maga is tudja, hogy a világ rohad, és a rothadtság nem orvosolható?
Rousseau azt állítja, Alceste előfutára a francia klasszicizmusnak: egy álca nélküli, igaz ember egy olyan társadalomban, ahol mindenki álarcot visel – a természetes lét előhírnöke. Szerinte „A mizantróp” a tiszta, s ezért meg nem értett egyéniség tragédiája a romlott társadalomban.

Founded in 2015, aurevoir. has achieved one success after another, and has consistently provided their audience with explosive live experiences. On this occasion, they will be seeing out 2026 with a stellar line-up of special guests. At their year-end concert entitled Antológia (“Anthology”), the band will present a selection from their entire career to date.
For the fourteenth time, the Müpa is presenting a concert that brings the spotlight down on the myriad possibilities of the cimbalom and the tárogató. As in previous years, those in the audience in search of novelty and surprises will not leave disappointed, as four remarkably successful cimbalom soloists will take to the stage.
