The globally beloved Portuguese genre of fado is already familiar to the Müpa audience, and now one of its greatest contemporary stars is visiting Budapest for the first time. Nominated for a Latin Grammy, Carminho is a true heir to her mother, Teresa Siqueira, and was celebrated as the genre’s great hope in 2005, even before she reached the age of 20. The singer has lived up to her promise, building a consistently high-quality oeuvre across six albums since her 2009 debut. Today, she continues to honour the traditions of fado while seamlessly integrating influences from Brazilian music (including a collaborative album with Tom Jobim and a joint song and tour with Caetano Veloso). Even jazz and pop elements blend harmoniously into her work. Her latest four-song live EP was recorded with the legendary producer Steve Albini.

Our offer

It has been a long time since we thought of Cécile McLorin Salvant as merely the promising winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Her expressive voice capable of conveying profound emotions and refined sentiments, her virtuoso improvisation, and her brave, experimental combinations of styles have now come to represent a point of reference to a new generation.

Twenty-five years ago, four highly skilled French musicians decided to take the freedom of jazz and the pulsating sound of funk, and shape them into an entirely new concept by exploiting the possibilities offered by electronica. The experiment proved successful, and Electro Deluxe was born in Paris. Later, courtesy of American singer James Copley, the band discovered new vistas to explore.

Artistic collaborations between Müpa Budapest and the Munich Radio Orchestra have already delighted audiences with two Verdi rarities: I due Foscari in 2018 and another early Verdi opera, I Lombardi, which was performed in 2023 by an outstanding international cast of singers. On this occasion, chief conductor Ivan Repušić has chosen another gem, Simon Boccanegra.
