One of the best known farces in opera literature, Don Pasquale puts even the funniest films to shame with its situational comedy, colourful characters and sparkling humour. Its music is particular virtuosic: the famous duet between Doctor Malatesta and Don Pasquale makes for a perennial gala-night favourite. At the same time, delving a bit deeper into the story reveals that it is really about timeless human problems and desires, disappointments and disillusionments: an elderly gent longing for a mate, lovers yearning for a decent life, mistrustful kinsfolk, a money-hungry friend.
Csaba Káel's direction emphasises the eternal validity of the themes, showing the spectacular dramatic content at the heart of the situations, the fear of loneliness, the many faces of love, the tragedy which came within a hair's breadth of a happy ending. With nuanced devices of stylization, the production focuses on the timeless tale and its eternal relevance.

Emmet Cohen has clearly got what it takes. It goes without saying that he is a brilliant pianist who knows to strike a chord with his fellow musicians – legendary figures such as Ron Carter and Benny Golson, leading artists of today like Joshua Redman and Christian McBride, and even the bright hopes of tomorrow, such as Samara Joy and Mejdi Owens – and how to connect with his audience, whether in a jazz club, a concert hall, or online.
Theatre? Cinema? A concert? How about all three at once? Bori Péterfy has been a key figure in the Hungarian underground scene ever since the late ‘80s. She has amassed a series of acting credits for memorable roles at both independent and traditional theatres, while simultaneously gaining iconic status in the country’s music scene as a performer with Amorf Ördögök and, later on, Love Band.
John Coltrane, who was born a hundred years ago, recorded a landmark album in 1963 with the singer Johnny Hartman.
The evening promises a memorable encounter with one of the most celebrated groups of works in Bach’s oeuvre, as well…
