Femi Kuti & Positive Force

Femi Kuti is the oldest son of the Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, though naturally it is not only through his father that Femi has become a well-known and highly acclaimed musician, composer and civil rights activist. Femi Kuti is a major artist who has brought his spiritual heritage into the modern day and moulded it into a 21st-century form.

Femi founded his own band Positive Force in 1980, and from 1988 gradually emerged as a vital figure on the international scene. He has received four Grammy nominations to date, has worked alongside the multi-award-winning Common, collaborated with Coldplay on the song Arabesque, and even earned his own radio channel in the Grand Theft Auto IV video game. Femi Kuti’s concerts are always an occasion to both celebrate world music and take a stand in favour of social justice.

Our offer

One of the organ’s most promising young stars and the winner of last year’s St Albans International Organ Competition, the Jena-born Alexis Grizard steps up as the soloist for this concert promising two monumental compositions. Ferenc Liszt’s most extensive organ work is often referred to as “The Organ Sonata in B minor”.

Three stories taking place over the course of a single night in Memphis, seen from three different points of view. Jim Jarmusch has come up with an incredibly exciting storytelling technique for this film. (He has often chosen unusual narrative forms in his later works.) Furthermore, he only reveals it in the second part of the triptych.

This festive concert by Concerto Budapest, conducted by former Kurtág student András Keller and featuring world-class soloists, presents a cross-section of the 100-year-old György Kurtág's oeuvre.
