Zenéjét Kocsák Tibor írta, aki akkor már a Színház- és Filmművészeti Főiskola tanára és a Madách Színház zenei vezetője volt. Noha eddigre sok nagysikerű musical létrehozásában vett részt, nagy ívű musical-operettjeinek sorában a Légy jó mindhalálig az első. A librettót Miklós Tibor írta, az összekötő jeleneteket pedig Pinczés István. Az ősbemutatót a Debreceni Csokonai Színházban, 1991. április 19-én tartották, ezzel ünnepelve a színház megalakulásának 150-ik évfordulóját.
A siker elsöprő, „Nyilas Misi-klubok” alakulnak, és a művet csaknem minden nagyobb színház bemutatja Magyarországon. Sikerét annak is köszönheti, hogy az átdolgozás a mai gyerekek életérzését, gondjait is érinti, zenei stílusa, szófordulatai közelebb hozzák a történetet és a szereplőket a mai kor nézőihez.

It could be that even we ourselves often don’t fully comprehend how many ways the digital age has changed our relationship with music. Nevertheless, there remain themes that simply demand an analogue, more traditional approach. Active since the ’10s, singer-songwriter Gergő Szakács has transitioned over the years from monumental pop sounds to more intimate, live instrumental productions, and this journey will reach its next important milestone at Müpa Budapest.
