The count happens to be a successful stage author and the baron’s daughter, who falls in love with the ‘butler’, dreams of being an actress. A real actress from the nearby estate wants to win the author for herself, the girl wants the butler, her father wants the count - to marry his daughter, that is. In Baroness Lili everyone wants something different, even when they all want the exact same man.
Huszka Jenő takes us to a rich, dreamy operetta world with his great melodies, he guides us between extremes of passion and comedy in the rather small and intimate space of our Studio Theatre. The merging of these extremes create an energy that allows this performance to transcend the conventional limits of the genre. Baroness Lili is both more and less than a grand operetta: there’s nothing more than nine actors, one musician and an incredible story.
Szilvia Bognár, Bori Magyar and Ági Szalóki are three leading female figures in the Hungarian folk and world music scene, who have put the joy and power of communal singing at the heart of their new joint production.
Mozart was insatiably in love with life. He embraced everything considered “sinful”: wine, cards, billiards. And his passion extended to musical ornaments: flowery acciaccaturas, trills, cadences others dared not risk, and chromatic runs. But there can be no doubt the main objects of his desire were women. He dedicated several of his masterpieces to one or other of his lovers, who were thus immortalised by these concert and opera arias.
Das Rheingold is the introduction to the storyline, depicting the central conflict. Starting from a primeval state of peace, the opera shows how the original sin was committed, triggering a chain of events that eventually lead to complete annihilation.
