Bűnügyi komédia
Egy francia kisvárostól pár kilométerre, egy magányosan álló hegyvidéki házban játszódik a történet.
Marcelt, az iparmágnást, karácsony előtt a hegyi kastélyában egyik reggel leszúrva találják. A külvilágtól elzárt kastélyban a telefon nem működik, az egyetlen autó is lerobban. A Marcelhez legközelebb álló nyolc nő mind egymást gyanúsítja. A feleség Gaby, lányai, Suzon és Catherine, nevelőanyja Mamy, féltestvére Augustine, húga Pierrette, a szakácsnő és a szobalány is eltérően fogalmazzák meg kötődésüket Marcelhez.
Hamarosan kiderül, hogy mindenkinek van valami takargatni valója, és oka is lett volna a gyilkosságra. Miközben a tragikus és kegyetlen igazság napvilágra kerül, az álarcok lehullnak, a képmutatók lelepleződnek.
