The dice and the stopwatch will be coming out again at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall as it hosts another round of musical ‘battle’. When we talk about instrumental duels in the Hungarian capital these days, it is no longer necessarily Bach and Marchand, or even Liszt and Thalberg, that we are thinking of, because we have our own riveting concert series right here at Müpa Budapest.

According to critics, the Serbian cellist Petar Pejčić possesses a “captivating gift for storytelling” (Le Soir). His career has soared since he first attracted attention as the youngest finalist of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition, which he followed up with victory at the 2025 YCAT competition in London. He is currently studying with Frans Helmerson at the renowned Kronberg Academy.

This multi-art production draws on the song, dance and literary traditions of Mezőség (Câmpia Transilvaniei), a region in Transylvania with a very exciting and colourful culture. Musically, the show is centred around movements from Mikrokosmos, Béla Bartók’s piano cycle, as well as the melodies from Mezőség that inspired him.
