A második világháború után járunk, a helyszín Kréta, ahol Niko, az angol író megismerkedik Alexisz Zorbával, az életművész ex-vájárral. Közös kalandjaik során az író megtanulja, hogy mi is az a pozitív gondolkodás: mit jelent, hogy mindig az élet napos oldalát kell nézni.
Bármibe is kezd Zorba, mindent intenzíven és teljes odaadással csinál, az írónak mégsem hoz szerencsét. Először az örökségbe kapott bánya omlik be, azután Zorbának hatalmas ötlete támad, amihez csak az író összes megtakarított pénzére lesz szükségük, ám eközben mindkettőjükre rátalál a szerelem, a Sors pedig kiismerhetetlenül keverni kezdi a kártyákat...
A világhírű musical, a címszerepben Katkó Ferenccel, az író szerepében Czitor Attilával, Radó Denise rendezésében most Békéscsabán látható.
